“White House Plans New Iran Sanctions After Missile Attack on Israel: President Biden Coordinates Response with Allies”

White House: The White House has announced plans to target Iran with new sanctions following the recent missile attack by Tehran on Israel. President Biden is coordinating with allies to impose these sanctions on Iran’s missile and drone programs.

In response to Iran’s unprecedented aerial assault on Israel, President Biden is working in coordination with allies, partners, and bipartisan leaders in Congress to formulate a comprehensive response. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan indicated that amidst escalating tensions, the United States will soon impose new sanctions on Iran. These sanctions will encompass not only its missile and drone programs but also entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry.

Sullivan emphasized, “We hope our allies and partners will promptly follow suit with their own restrictions.” Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance the effectiveness of Middle Eastern air and missile defense capabilities and early warning systems through collaboration between the Defense Department and the U.S. Central Command.

He further stated that under the President’s direction, “Over 600 individuals and entities are connected to terrorism, terrorist financing, illicit trade, egregious human rights abuses, and support for terror groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, and proxy terrorist organizations such as Kata’ib Hezbollah.” Sullivan affirmed that pressure will continue, and there will be no hesitation in holding the Iranian government accountable for its destabilizing actions, maintaining coordination with global partners, allies, and Congress.

Some critics in Congress have urged Biden to reverse the leniency shown during Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure campaign.” This campaign aimed to deprive the Iranian government of funds that could potentially be used for nuclear proliferation and armed groups in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestinian territories, Syria, and Yemen.
